Dad & Daughter day at Ride for Dad 2011

Hello and thanks for visiting! As you have probably guessed, my name is Paul Gerber. I live in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

I am married to a wonderful woman named Jamie (the second time around is MUCH better) with whom I share much happiness and riding time in the warmer weather. I have a daughter who is 15 (how did that happen? She was only 5 the other day) and four step-sons.

I am a Specifier by profession (I write architectural specifications – the books that accompany the drawings for a construction project that detail the administrative requirements as well as the product quality and installation requirements ) and a motorcycle enthusiast in my spare time (of which there is never enough!)

I am actively involved in Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) where I am the Director for the Grand Valley Chapter as well as the Architectural/Specifications Officer. I am also a member of  the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI – but we’re much cooler than those Crime Scene Investigators like you see on TV). These organizations are both dedicated to improving the communication and collaboration involved the the Architectural Engineering & Construction (AEC) industry through education, development of standard formats, classification systems and best practices. I enjoy the networking aspects of both associations, both real world and through various social media outlets.

In fact, the social media aspect is the main reason I am starting this blog. I have been inspired to share my thoughts and knowledge by many people within these communities who are also avid bloggers. I have been amazed at how much information I have discovered and confirmed through the various blogs that I read regularly. Eventually I will create a list of the many useful and interesting blogs I follow, just not today. I am a complete noob to blogging and even laying out a website (as you can probably see already) but I am sure things on this site will only get better over time…so check back often and be sure to leave comments on the ramblings that I post!
